Why do baseball players hold their batting gloves while on base?
I always see players with one batting glove in each hand when they are on base.

Answer
They hold the gloves so that when they slide into base, they do so with a closed fist as opposed to an open hand. This prevents the hand, especially the fingers, from being injured.
